An exciting look into the future . . .

. . . and a strategy to share the Autumn Ridge Church experience over the next decade of growth.

This resource provides a first peek into the possible future expansion of Autumn Ridge Church facilities.  We will review the remarkable growth of the congregation over 152 years, particularly since the 2005 relocation to Salem Road.

We will be introduced to a team who have been studying how the current facilities will limit ministry as growth continues.  We will introduce a vision for Phase 2 of the Autumn Ridge Church campus, a new multi-purpose ministry center.

This $4.5M center, still in its conceptual phase, will feature multipurpose classrooms to allow relocation of adult education so kids ministries can expand.

The center will provide enlarged gathering spaces for social and greeting functions.  The center will also meet a long-standing need at Autumn Ridge, providing gymnasium and playground spaces for recreation.  The CENTER at autumn ridge will be about building to share.

Planning for the CENTER at Autumn Ridge

The master site plan for the 60-acre campus of Autumn Ridge Church includes the potential for staged growth to meet the needs of the congregation and its outreach to the community and the world.  The initial facility of more than 73,000 square feet was completed in 2005.

A 2009 study of facility use and ministry needs indicates that strategic growth and community outreach opportunities exist in three areas:
1) Expansion of space for ministry to children;
2) Expansion of gathering/greeting space; and
3) creation of gymnasium and playground space.

While flex-use rooms have served well since 2005, facility saturation was experienced in some areas prior to implementation of the Enhanced Emmaus program.  Saturation of key ministry areas (kids, gathering) will recur within 2-3 years.  Strategic planning began in the spring of 2009.  A new “CENTER at Autumn Ridge” is envisioned as a congregational investment to welcome and serve new guests at Autumn Ridge Church family, offering a vibrant relationship with Jesus Christ.

A Building Implementation Committee (BIC) was charged by the Board of Autumn Ridge Church to investigate the needs and scope this facility.  The ROC-BIC chair is Jim Maher.  Other committee members are Paula Edwards, Claire Farm, Lloyd Johnson (project manager), Greg Lappin, and Bill Price. Comments are welcome by e-mail to CENTER[at]AutumnRidgeChurch.org or by posting a question/comment to the blog site.

The Design of the CENTER at Autumn Ridge

The CENTER design features a spacious, open concept

The CENTER at Autumn Ridge is phase 2 of the master plan for the Salem Road campus. The addition is designed to accommodate growth over the next decade. The facility will include multi-purpose classrooms to allow expansion of kids ministry within the existing education wing, gathering spaces to supplement greeting, food service and interaction functions of the current lobby and Common Grounds Café, and large multi-purpose recreation spaces. The CENTER will have two levels, with classrooms on the upper level initially unfinished to reduce costs.

While touring facilities, your Building Implementation Committee was impressed by the open design of the Rochester Athletic Club. The interior concept for the CENTER celebrates this approach, with fewer partitions and more overlooks and open staircases.

This three-year initiative is designed to raise construction funds for global service at Compassion Evangelical Hospital (Guinea, West Africa) and construction funds for the CENTER at Autumn Ridge.

The design will integrate activities across the facility, linking courtyards, balconies, an atrium, and interior bridges. When needed, curtains in the recreation/gathering space can be drawn to provide temporary separation of activities.

The largest open area in the CENTER is multi-purpose in function. The space will have capabilities for multiple basketball and volleyball courts and recreation, but will also accommodate banquet seating, worship and performance use, large group education, fairs, and community service events. If needed before sanctuary expansion, the CENTER will have the potential to provide overflow seating and closed-circuit video of worship events from the main auditorium.
