Karen is the Pastor of Children’s Ministry at Autumn Ridge Church. Working with a team of professionals and volunteers, she is responsible for leading a ministry that works in partnership with parents to help children build a strong faith in Jesus. Their objective is to teach children to worship, learn and obey the Bible, win others to Christ, and serve the body and community. Before accepting the call to Autumn Ridge Church, Karen lived in Roseville, MN, where she directed the Children’s Ministry at Grace Church Roseville. Karen graduated from St. Olaf College and was licensed in secondary education at the College of St. Benedict. Her passion for children developed as she raised her own five children and volunteered in school and church activities. Karen and her husband, Mark, were married for 27 years before he passed away in 2001. All five children graduated from MoundsView High School. Kara, married to Jeff Sorensen; Matt, married to Kim Hedlund; and Mark “Mickey”, all live and work in the Twin City area. Kevin is at Bethel University, studying Elementary Ed and Science and Kristin is at Miami University of Ohio, studying Math. In addition to her ministry to children, she enjoys speaking to various groups, visiting friends and family, swimming, knitting, watching football and basketball games, and attending concerts and musicals.
